Lake Shrine is a private Meditation Sanctuary and Temple open to the public. It is also home to a family of monks who appreciate your modest attire and respectful behavior. Lake Shrine consists of two separate levels: the Meditation Garden level and the Temple level, which are connected by multiple flights of stairs. There is no charge to visit Lake Shrine.
The Meditation Gardens are open daily except Mondays* and holidays. The Temple is open only on Sundays and for evening services.

Lake Shrine has limited onsite parking; please respect our “Lot Full” signs and seek parking off-site on neighboring streets such as Palisades Drive and Los Liones Drive.
Meditation Garden Level
Most visitors come to simply enjoy the beauty and peace. The Meditation Garden Level has paths for walking, benches for quiet meditation, shrines to venerate, and kiosks with free literature. Quiet conversation is appreciated. The Windmill Chapel offers a peaceful indoor space for meditation and prayer; the Museum houses collectibles from the life of Paramahansa Yogananda; the Gift Shop has Indian specialties for sale; and, the Visitor Center offers information along with books, CDs, DVDs, and gifts for sale.
The upper Temple level offers a Sanctuary for meditation and devotional services, with a Bookroom featuring the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda.
Parking for handicap access is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Most of the Meditation Garden level is accessible for wheelchairs, but it is advisable to bring someone to assist. Facilities are available upon request. The Temple level is fully handicap accessible, but there is no handicap access between the upper Temple and lower Meditation Garden levels.
Lake Shrine is supported by a vibrant volunteer community, whose members act as greeters, hosts, shop attendants, and docents. They help and serve by answering questions and assisting in maintaining a meditative environment. Your respectful cooperation is appreciated if one of the volunteers approaches with a request.
