With donor support several important projects were completed over the past two years, including restoration of the Golden Lotus Towers and new roofing for our Temple and Retreat buildings. A second phase of the project is currently underway, installing a shore stabilizing structure that will be continuous around the perimeter of the Lake
Recently, a very important milestone was accomplished with the repair of the major erosion damage to the shoreline between the Windmill Chapel and the Houseboat. The path in that area was in grave danger of collapse before this repair was completed. The tiers of the retaining wall will be planted with English Ivy to prevent erosion and to cover the pipe and retaining walls.
Now that the most critical section of the shoreline has been repaired, work will begin on adding a shore stabilization structure that will extend 360 degrees around the Lake. To accomplish this the water level has been lowered by nine inches. This allows us to complete all work so that the structural components of the stabilization structure will be underwater when the project is completed and the Lake is raised to its normal level. When the project is completed, visitors will only see granite rocks along the shore.
Donations received in response to this appeal will be deposited into the Lake Shrine Temple Building Fund at Mother Center and will be utilized for the aforementioned project, and may also be used to cover large maintenance expenses associated with Lake Shrine’s buildings and future meeting facilities, grounds, equipment, furniture, vehicles, fundraising expenses, and any potential future property purchases.
