8:00pm – 9:00pm Kathak Classical Indian Dance with Rina Mehta of Leela Institute. The evening’s performance will feature Rina performing the story of Chandanbala, Jainism’s most revered female saint. Born as the princess Vasumati, Chandanbala’s enduring compassion and faith stand in stark contrast to the injustice that surrounded her life. Rina’s voice is powerful and evocative as she interprets this ancient tale, bringing to it a contemporary resonance as she weaves together dance, music, rhythm, mime, and song. Rina developed her original dance performance as part of a collection of pieces designed to advance a collective vision for Kathak. Rina will be accompanied by Jayanta Banerjee (Sitar), Vaibhav Mankad (Vocals), and Satyaprakash Mishra (Tabla).
